Account Of A Visit From St. Nicholas Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIIJJ KJLLMMNNOOPPQQRRSSTG UUSSVVWWXXYYZZA2A2

'Twas the night before Christmas when all thro' the houseA
Not a creature was stirring not even a mouseA
The stockings were hung by the chimney with careB
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be thereB
The children were nestled all snug in their bedsC
While visions of sugar plums danc'd in their headsC
And Mama in her 'kerchief and I in my capD
Had just settled our brains for a long winter's napD
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatterE
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matterE
Away to the window I flew like a flashF
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sashF
The moon on the breast of the new fallen snowG
Gave the lustre of mid day to objects belowG
When what to my wondering eyes should appearH
But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny rein deerH
With a little old driver so lively and quickI
I knew in a moment it must be St NickI
More rapid than eagles his coursers they cameJ
And he whistled and shouted and call'd them by nameJ
Now Dasher now Dancer now Prancer and VixenK
On Comet on Cupid on Dunder and BlixemJ
To the top of the porch to the top of the wallL
Now dash away dash away dash away allL
As dry leaves before the wild hurricane flyM
When they meet with an obstacle mount to the skyM
So up to the house top the coursers they flewN
With the sleigh full of Toys and St Nicholas tooN
And then in a twinkling I heard on the roofO
The prancing and pawing of each little hoofO
As I drew in my head and was turning aroundP
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a boundP
He was dress'd all in fur from his head to his footQ
And his clothes were all tarnish'd with ashes and sootQ
A bundle of toys was flung on his backR
And he look'd like a peddler just opening his packR
His eyes how they twinkled his dimples how merryS
His cheeks were like roses his nose like a cherryS
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bowT
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snowG
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teethU
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreathU
He had a broad face and a little round bellyS
That shook when he laugh'd like a bowl full of jellyS
He was chubby and plump a right jolly old elfV
And I laugh'd when I saw him in spite of myselfV
A wink of his eye and a twist of his headW
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dreadW
He spoke not a word but went straight to his workX
And fill'd all the stockings then turn'd with a jerkX
And laying his finger aside of his noseY
And giving a nod up the chimney he roseY
He sprung to his sleigh to his team gave a whistleZ
And away they all flew like the down of a thistleZ
But I heard him exclaim ere he drove out of sightA2
Happy Christmas to all and to all a good nightA2
