To My Good Friend W. T. H. Howe Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAAAAAABCDBCD

Friend for the sake of loves we hold in commonA
The love of books of paintings rhyme and fictionA
And for the sake of that divine afflictionA
The love of art passing the love of womanA
By which all life's made nobler superhumanA
Lifting the soul above and without frictionA
Of Time that puts failure in his predictionA
Works to some end through hearts that dreams illumineA
To you I pour this Cup of Dreams a striverB
And dreamer too in this sad world unwittingC
Of that you do the help that still assurethD
Lifts up the heart struck down by that dark driverB
Despair who on Life's pack horse effort sittingC
Rides down Ambition through whom Art endurethD
