What though I dreamed of mountain heightsA
Of peaks the barriers of the worldB
Around whose tops the Northern LightsA
And tempests are unfurledB
-
Mine are the footpaths leading throughC
Life's lowly fields and woods with riftsD
Above of heaven's Eden blueC
By which the violet liftsD
-
Its shy appeal and holding upE
Its chaliced gold like some wild wineF
Along the hillside cup on cupE
Blooms bright the celandineF
-
Where soft upon each flowering stockG
The butterfly spreads damask wingsH
And under grassy loam and rockG
The cottage cricket singsH
-
Where overhead eve blooms with fireI
In which the new moon bends her bowJ
And arrow like one white star by herI
Burns through the afterglowK
-
I care not so the sesameL
I find the magic flower thereM
Whose touch unseals each mysteryL
In water earth and airM
-
That in the oak tree lets me hearN
Its heart's deep speech its soul's wise wordsO
And to my mind makes crystal clearP
The melodies of birdsO
-
Why should I care who live aloofQ
Beyond the din of life and dustR
While dreams still share my humble roofQ
And love makes sweet my crustR
