The White Evening Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC EFFE GHHG IBJI KLMK NOON IPPI QRRQ

From gray bleak hills 'neath steely skiesA
Thro' beards of ice the forests roarB
Along the river's humming shoreB
The skimming skater bird like fliesA
-
On windy meads where wave white breaksC
Where fettered briers' glist'ning handsD
Reach to the cold moon's ghastly landsD
Hoots the lorn owl and crouching quakesC
-
With frowsy snow blanched is the worldE
Stiff sweeps the wind thro' murmuring pinesF
Then fiend like deep entangled whinesF
Thro' the dead oak that vagrant twirledE
-
Phantoms the cliff o'er the wild woldG
Ghost vested willows rim the streamH
Low hang lank limbs where in a dreamH
The houseless hare leaps o'er the coldG
-
On snow tressed crags that twinkling flashI
Like champions mailed for clanking warB
Glares down large Phosphor's quiv'ring starJ
Where teeth of foam the fierce seas gnashI
-
Slim o'er the tree tops weighed with whiteK
The country church's spire doth swellL
A scintillating icicleM
While fitfully the village lightK
-
In sallow stars stabs the gray darkN
Homeward the creaking wagons strainO
Thro' knee deep drifts the steeple's vaneO
A flitting ghost whirls in its sarkN
-
Down from the flaky North with clashI
Swathed in his beard of flashing sleetP
With steeds of winds that jangling beatP
Life from the world and roaring dashI
-
Loud Winter ruddy as a roseQ
Blown by the June's mild musky lipsR
The high moon dims her horn that dipsR
And fold on fold roll down the snowsQ
