The Tollman's Daughter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDCD EFFE AGHA AIAI JAAJ KAAK LMLM ANNA

She stood waist deep among the briersA
Above in twisted lengths were rolledB
The sunset's tangled whorls of goldB
Blown from the west's cloud pillared firesA
-
And in the hush no sound did marC
You almost heard o'er hill and dellD
Deep bubbling over star on starC
The night's blue cisterns slowly wellD
-
A crane like some dark crescent crossedE
The sunset winging towards the westF
While up the east her silver breastF
Of light the moon brought white as frostE
-
So have I painted her you seeA
The tollman's daughter What an armG
And throat was hers and what a formH
Art dreams of such divinityA
-
What braids of night to hold and kissA
There is no pigment anywhereI
A man might use to picture thisA
The splendour of her raven hairI
-
A face as beautiful and brightJ
As rosy fair as twilight skiesA
Lit with the stars of hazel eyesA
And eyebrowed black with pencilled nightJ
-
For her I know where'er she trodK
Each dewdropp raised a looking glassA
To flash her beauty from the grassA
That wild flowers bloomed along the sodK
-
And whispered perfume when she smiledL
The wood bird hushed to hear her songM
Or all enamoured tame not wildL
Before her feet flew fluttering longM
-
The brook went mad with melodyA
Eddied in laughter when she kissedN
With naked feet its amethystN
And I I fell in love ah meA
