The Romanza Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCB ADEED AFCCF AGHHG AIHHI AJEEJ

In a kingdom of mist and moonlightA
Or ever the world was knownB
Past leagues of unsailed waterC
There reigned a king with a daughterC
That shone like a starry stoneB
-
The day grew out o' the moonlightA
But never a day was thereD
The king was wise as hoaryE
And his daughter like the gloryE
Of seven kingdoms fairD
-
And the night dimmed over the moonlightA
And ever the mist was grayF
With slips of dull stars bluerC
Where the princess met her wooerC
A page like the month o' MayF
-
In her eyes the mist and the moonlightA
In hair of a crumpled goldG
By day they wooed a hawkingH
A hawking laughed a mockingH
The good white king and oldG
-
On the sea the mist and the moonlightA
Poured pale to the lilies' tipsI
At eve when the hawks were feedingH
In courts to the kennels leadingH
He kissed her mouth and lipsI
-
On towers the mist and the moonlightA
On a dead face staring upJ
His kingly couch was readyE
But and her hand was steadyE
Giving the poisoned cupJ
