The Ride. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CBCB DEDE FGHI DBDB JKJK LBLB MNMN CECE

She rode o'er hill she rode o'er plainA
She rode by fields of barleyB
By morning glories filled with rainA
And beechen branches gnarlyB
-
She rode o'er plain she rode o'er hillC
By orchard land and berryB
Her face was buoyant as the rillC
Her eyes and heart were merryB
-
A bird sang here a bird sang thereD
Then blithely sang togetherE
Sang sudden greetings every whereD
Good morrow and good weatherE
-
The sunlight's laughing radianceF
Laughed in her radiant tressesG
The bold breeze set her curls a danceH
Made red her lips with kissesI
-
Why ride ye here why ride ye thereD
Why ride ye here so merryB
The sunlight living in your hairD
And in your cheek the cherryB
-
Why ride ye with your sea green plumesJ
Your sea green silken habitK
By balmy bosks of faint perfumesJ
Where squats the cunning rabbitK
-
The morning's feet are wrought of goldL
The hunter's horn is jollyB
Sir Richard bold was rich and oldL
Was old and melancholyB
-
A wife they'd have me to his bedM
And to the kirk they hurriedN
But now gramercy he is deadM
Perdie is dead and buriedN
-
I ride by tree I ride by rillC
I ride by rye and cloverE
For by the kirk beyond the hillC
Awaits a better loverE
