When dusk falls cool as a rained on roseB
And a tawny tower the twilight showsB
With the crescent moon the silver moon the curvedC
new moon in a space that glowsB
A turret window that grows alightD
There is a path that my Fancy knowsB
A glimmering shimmering path of nightD
That far as the Land of Faery goesB

-
And I follow the path as Fancy leadsE
Over the mountains into the meadsE
Where the firefly cities the glowworm cities the faeryF
cities are strung like beadsE
Each city a twinkling starF
And I live a life of valorous deedsE
And march with the Faery King to warF
And ride with his knights on milk white steedsE

-
Or it's there in the whirl of their life I sitG
Or dance in their houses with starlight litG
Their blossom houses their flower houses their elfinH
houses of fern leaves knitG
With fronded spires and domesI
And there it is that my lost dreams flitG
And the ghost of my childhood smiling roamsI
With the faery children so dear to itG
-
IV-
-
And it's there I hear that they all come trueF
The faery stories whatever they doF
Elf and goblin dear elf and goblin loved elf and goblinH
and all the crewF
Of witch and wizard and gnome and fay-
And prince and princess that wander throughF
The storybooks we have put away-
The faerytales that we loved and knewF
-
V-
-
The face of Adventure lures you thereF
And the eyes of Danger bid you dareF
While ever the bugles the silver bugles the far off-
bugles of Elfland blareF
The faery trumpets to battle blowJ
And you feel their thrill in your heart and hairF
And you fain would follow and mount and goJ
And march with the Faeries anywhereF
-
VI-
-
And she she rides at your side againK
Your little sweetheart whose age is tenK
She is the princess the faery princess the princess fairF
that you worshiped whenK
You were a prince in a faerytaleJ
And you do great deeds as you did them thenK
With your magic spear and enchanted mailJ
Braving the dragon in his denK
-
VII-
-
And you ask again 'Oh where shall we rideL
Now that the monster is slain my bride '-
'Back to the cities the firefly cities the glowwormM
cities where we can hideL
The beautiful cities of FaerylandL
And the light of my eyes shall be your guideL
The light of my eyes and my snow white handL
And there forever we two will abide '-
