Sometimes when I'm gone to bedA
And it's all dark in the roomB
Seems I hear somebody treadA
Heavy rustling through the gloomB
And then something there goes 'boom 'C
Stumbling on the floor o'erheadA
And I cover eyes and earsD
Never dare to once look outA
But just cry till mother hearsE
Says there's naught to cry aboutA
'Old Mis' Wind is at her capersF
Shut your eyes and go to sleepG
She has got among those papersF
In the attic with her sweepG
Shut your eyes and go to sleep 'C

Sometimes when the lamplight's flameI
Flickers fingers tap the paneJ
Knuckled fingers just the sameI
Rapping with long nails againK
Bony hands then seem to strainJ
Pulling at the window frameI
And I cry 'Who's there ' And thenK
Sit bolt up in bed and callL
Till my father drops his penK
Saying to me from the hallL
'Old Man Rain is at his nonsenseM
Close your eyes and go to sleepG
Makes a lot of noise My conscienceN
What a fuss his fingers keepG
Close your eyes and go to sleep '-
