A blown white bubble buoyed zenith wardA
Up from the tremulous East the round moon swungB
Mist murky and the unsocial stars that throngedC
Hot with the drought thick down the empty WestD
Winked thirstily no wind to rouse the leavesE
That o'er the glaring road lolled palpitantD
Withered and whitened of the weary dustD
From iron hoofs of that gay fellowshipF
Of knights which gat at morn the king disguisedD
Whose mind was in the lists to joust and beG
An equal mid unequals man with manH
Who from the towers of Edric passed whereinI
Some nights he'd sojourned till one morn a hornJ
Sang at dim portals musical with dewD
Wild echoes of wild woodlands and the huntD
Clear herald of the staunchest of his knightsK
And they to the great jousts at CamelotD
Rode pounding off a noise of steel and steedsL
-
Thick in the stagnant moat the lilies layM
Ghastly and rotting hoarse with rusty chainsN
The drawbridge hung before the barbed grateD
And far above along lone battlementsO
His armor moon drenched one great sentinelP
Clanked drowsily and it was late in JuneQ
She at her lattice lawny night robed leanedD
Dreaming of somewhat dear and happy smiledD
From glorious eyes a face like gracious nightsK
One silent brilliancy of steadfast starsR
Innumerable and delicate through the duskS
Long loosened loops and coils of sensuous hairT
Rolled turbulence down naked neck and throatD
That shamed the moonshine with a rival sheenU
-
One stooped above her till his nostrils drankV
Rich faint perfumes that blossomed in her hairT
And 'round her waist hooped one strong arm and drewD
Her mightily to him soft burying deepW
In crushed fresh linen warm with flesh his armX
Searched all her eyes until his own were druggedD
Mad with their fire quick one hungry kissY
Like anger bruised fierce on her breathless lipsZ
Whispered And lov'st but one and heG
Sweet sweet my lord thou wotest well and thenA2
From love's stern beauty writhen into hate'sZ
Gnarled hideousness he haled her sweet white faceZ
Back back by its large braids of plenteous hairT
Till her full bosom's clamorous speechlessnessZ
Stiff on the moon burst white low mocked and laughedD
The King I wot adulteress and a bladeD
Glanced thin as ice plunged hard hard in her heartD
