Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEDDFGHGHIJIJJF GKGKLMLMNFUPON the iron crags of War I heard his terrible daughters | A |
In battle speak while at their feet | B |
In gulfs of human waters | A |
A voice intoning 'Where is God ' in ceaseless sorrow beat | B |
And to my heart in doubt I said | C |
'God God's above the storm | D |
O heart be brave be comforted | E |
And keep your hearth stone warm | D |
For her who breasts the storm | D |
God's Peace the fair of form ' | F |
I heard the Battle Angels cry above the slain's red mountains | G |
While from their wings the lightnings hurled | H |
Of Death's destroying fountains | G |
And thunder of their revels rolled around the ruined world | H |
Still to my heart in fear I cried | I |
'God God is watching there | J |
My heart oh keep the doorway wide | I |
Here in your House of Care | J |
For her who wanders there | J |
God's Peace with happy hair ' | F |
The darkness and the battle passed and rushing on wild pinions | G |
The hosts of Havoc shrieked their hate | K |
And fled to Hell's dominions | G |
And lo I heard out in the night a knocking at the gate | K |
And one who cried aloud to me | L |
'The night and storm are gone | M |
Oh open wide the door and see | L |
Who waits here in the dawn | M |
Peace with God's splendor on | N |
Back to the sad world drawn ' | F |
