The House Of Life Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD AEAE BFBF GHGH IIII

They are the wise who look beforeA
Nor fear to look behindB
Who in the darkness still ignoreA
Pale shadows of the mindB
-
Who having lost though loss be muchC
Still dare to dream and doD
For what was shattered at a touchC
It may be mended tooD
-
The House of Life hath many a doorA
That leads to many a roomE
And only they who look beforeA
Shall win beyond its gloomE
-
Who stand and sigh and look behindB
Regretful of past yearsF
No room of all those rooms shall findB
That is not filled with fearsF
-
'T is better not to stop or stayG
But set all fear asideH
Fling wide the door whate'er the wayG
And enter at a strideH
-
Who dares may win to his desireI
Or failing reach the towerI
Whereon Life lights the beacon fireI
Of one immortal hourI
