The Epic Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GEGE HIJI

To arms the battle bugles blewA
The daughter of their Earl was sheB
Lord of a thousand swords and trueA
He but a squire of low degreeB
-
The horns of war blew up to horseC
He kissed her mouth her face was whiteD
God grant they bear thee back no corseC
God give I win my spurs to nightD
-
Each watch tower's blazing beacon scarredE
A blood blot in the wounded darkF
She heard knights gallop battlewardE
And from the turret leaned to markF
-
My God deliver me and mineG
My child my God all night she prayedE
She saw the battle beacons shineG
She saw the battle beacons fadeE
-
They brought him on a bier of spearsH
For him the death won spurs and nameI
For her the sting of secret tearsJ
And convent walls to hide her shameI
