The Dittany Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBABB CDEFED GHIGIH AJJAJJ

The scent of dittany was hotA
Its smell intensified the heatB
Into his brain it seemed to beatB
With memories of a day forgotA
When she walked with him through the wheatB
And noon was heavy with the heatB
-
Again her eyes gazed into hisC
With all their maiden tendernessD
Again the fragrance of her dressE
Swooned on his senses and with blissF
Again he felt her heart's caressE
Full of a timid tendernessD
-
What of that spray she plucked and gaveG
The spray of this wild dittanyH
Whose scent brought back to memoryI
A something lost beyond the graveG
He knew now what it meant ah meI
That spray of withered dittanyH
-
How many things he had forgotA
Far lovely things Life flings awayJ
And where was she now Who could sayJ
The dittany whose scent was hotA
Spoke to his heart and old and grayJ
Through the lone land he went his wayJ
