The tufted gold of the sassafrasB
And the gold of the spicewood bushC
Bewilder the ways of the forest passB
And brighten the underbrushD
The white starred drifts of the wild plum treeE
And the haw with its pearly plumesF
And the redbud misted rosilyG
Dazzle the woodland gloomsF

And I hear the song of the cat bird wakeH
I' the boughs o' the gnarled wild crabI
Or there where the snows of the dogwood shakeH
That the silvery sunbeams stabI
And it seems to me that a magic liesF
In the crystal sweet of its notesF
That a myriad blossoms open their eyesF
As its strain above them floatsF

-
I see the bluebell's blue uncloseF
And the trillium's stainless whiteJ
The bird foot violet's purple and roseF
And the poppy golden brightJ
And I see the eyes of the bluet winkK
And the heads of the white hearts nodL
And the baby mouths of the woodland pinkK
And the sorrel salute the sodL

And this meseems does the cat bird sayF
As the blossoms crowd i' the sunM
Up up and out oh out and awayF
Up up and out each oneM
Sweethearts sweethearts oh sweet sweet sweetN
Come listen and hark to meE
The Spring the Spring with her fragrant feetN
Is passing this way Oh hark to the beatN
Of her bee like heart Oh sweet sweet sweetN
Come open your eyes and seeE
See see seeE
