April calling April callingA
April calling meB
I hear the voice of April thereC
In each old apple treeB
Bee boom and wild perfumeD
And wood brook melodyB
O hark my heart and hear my heartE
The April EcstasyB

Hark to the hills the oldtime hillsF
That talk with sea and skyG
Or speak in murmurs with God's windsH
Who on their bosoms lieG
Bird call and waterfallI
And white clouds blowing byG
O hark my heart O hear my heartE
The April's cosmic cryG

There runs a whisper through the woodsJ
The word of bough to boughK
A sound of dead things donning greenL
Of Beauty waking nowK
Fern bower and wilding flowerM
Each like a prayer or vowK
O see my heart O look my heartE
Where Earth crowns white her browK

And far away and far awayN
Yet nearer than she seemsO
Look where she takes the oldtime trailP
And walks again with dreamsO
Bird note and blue remoteQ
And laughter of wild streamsO
O hark my heart O hear my heartE
And follow where she gleamsO

Earth has put off her winter garbR
Of gray and drab and dunS
And robes herself in raiment greenL
Of love and laughter spunS
Wood bloom and wood perfumeD
And colors of the sunS
O hark my heart O hear my heartE
Where her wild footsteps runS

O April mother of my soulT
Take to your heart your childU
And let him lie a little whileV
Upon its rapture wildU
Lean close and near and let him hearW
The words that once beguiledU
And on his eyes the kiss againX
Of longing reconciledU

O kiss that fills the fields with flowersY
And thrills with green each groveZ
Dream down into this heart againX
And grow to songs thereofA2
Wild songs in singing throngsB2
That swift shall mount aboveA2
And like to birds with lyric wordsC2
Take Earth and Heaven with loveA2
