Substratum Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDECEF GHGHHIHII HGHGGAGAA JHJHHAHAA HKHLKAKAA AMAMMHMHH

Hear you r o music in the creaksA
Made by the sallow grasshopperB
Who in the hot weeds sharply breaksA
The mellow dryness with his cheerC
Or did you by the hearthstones hearD
The cricket's kind shrill strain when frostE
Worked mysteries of silver nearC
Upon the casement's panes and lostE
Without the gate post seemed a sheeted ghostF
-
Or through the dank dim Springtide's nightG
Green minstrels of the marshlands tuneH
Their hoarse lyres in the pale twilightG
Hailing the sickle of the moonH
From flag thronged pools that glassed her luneH
Or in the Summer dry and loudI
The hard cicada whirr aboonH
His long lay in a poplar's cloudI
When the thin heat rose wraith like in a shroudI
-
The cloud that lids the naked moonH
And smites the myriad leaves with nightG
Of stormy lashes livid strewnH
With veins of branched and splintered lightG
The fruitful glebe with blossoms whiteG
The thistle's purple plume the tearsA
Pearling the matin buds' delightG
Contain a something it appearsA
'Neath their real selves a poetry that cheersA
-
Nor scoff at those who on the woldJ
See fairies whirling in the shineH
Of prodigal moons whose lavish goldJ
Paves wood ways forests wild with vineH
When all the wilderness with wineH
Of tipsy dew is dazed nor sayA
Our God's restricted to confineH
His wonders solely to the dayA
That yields the abstract tangible to clayA
-
Ponder the entrance of the MornH
When from her rubric forehead farK
Shines one clean star and the dead tarnH
The wooded river's red as warL
Where arid splinters of the scarK
Lock horns above a blue abyssA
How roses prank each icy barK
While piled aloft the mountains pressA
Fling dawn below from many a hoary tressA
-
The jutting crags all stubborn veinedA
With iron life where eaglets screamM
In dizzy flocks and cleave the stainedA
Mist rainbows of the mountain streamM
Thus you will drink the thickest creamM
Of nature if you do not scanH
The bald external and must deemM
A plan existent in a planH
As life in thrifty trees or soul in manH
