Sibylline Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDCE CFCFGHGHG

THERE is a glory in the apple boughsA
Of silver moonlight like a torch of myrrhB
Burning upon an altar of sweet vowsA
Dropped from the hand of some wan worshipperB
And there is life among the apple bloomsC
Of whisp'ring winds as if a god addressedD
The flamen from the sanctuary gloomsC
With secrets of the bourne that hope hath guessedD
Saying 'Behold a darkness which illumesC
A waking which is rest 'E
-
There is a blackness in the apple treesC
Of tempest like the ashes of an urnF
Hurt hands have gathered upon blistered kneesC
With salt of tears out of the flames that burnF
And there is death among the blooms that fillG
The night with breathless scent as when aboveH
The priest the vision of his faith doth willG
Forth from his soul the beautiful form thereofH
Saying 'Behold a silence never stillG
The other form of love '-
