Shadows On The Shore Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCB DEFFE GHIIH JKLLK MGNNO PFGGGQF

The doubtful dawn came dim and wanA
And dimmer grew the dayB
The kildee whistled among the weedsC
The blue crane clanged in the river reedsC
And a mist fell wild and grayB
-
At dawn she stood her heavy hoodD
Flung back in the ferry boatE
To watch the rebel raiders rideF
Her rebel love with his men besideF
His kiss on her mouth and throatE
-
Like some dark spell the tempest fellG
Like some wild curse night cameH
For hours she heard the warring deadI
Whose batteries opened overheadI
With thunder and with flameH
-
And now again in wind and rainJ
She toiled at the creaking oarK
Oh what had she heard in the night and stormL
Whose voice was that and whose the formL
That galloped to the shoreK
-
Across the stream in the tempest's gleamM
Who sent that wild hallooG
In the lightning's glare who was it thereN
The wind and the rain in his tossing hairN
And his gray cloak torn in twoO
-
Through rain and blast pull fast pull fastP
Oar down the rushing tideF
Look where he rides in the lightning's glowG
And hearken now to his far halloG
But only his horse with head hung lowG
A blur of blood on the saddlebowQ
Comes whinnying to her sideF
