| We know as man or from the wind and rain | B |
| Catch elemental rapture of refrain | B |
| And mark in music to due time and place | A |
| The aim of Art is Nature to unfold | C |
| Her truth and beauty to the souls of men | D |
| In close suggestions in whose forms is cast | E |
| Nothing so new but 'tis long eons old | C |
| Nothing so old but 'tis as young as when | D |
| The mind conceived it in the ages past | E |
