On Chenoweth's Run Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABB CDCDD EFEFF GFGFF HFHFF FDFDD

I Thought of the road through the glenA
With its hawk's nest high in the pineB
With its rock where the fox had his denA
'Mid tangles of sumach and vineB
Where she swore to be mineB
-
I thought of the creek and its banksC
Now glooming now gleaming with sunD
The rustic bridge builded of planksC
The bridge over Chenoweth's RunD
Where I wooed her and wonD
-
I thought of the house in the laneE
With its pinks and its sweet mignonetteF
Its fence and the gate with the chainE
Its porch where the roses hung wetF
Where I kissed her and metF
-
Then I thought of the family gravesG
Walled rudely with stone in the WestF
Where the sorrowful cedar tree wavesG
And the wind is a spirit distressedF
Where they laid her to restF
-
And my soul overwhelmed with despairH
Cried out on the city and martF
How I longed how I longed to be thereH
Away from the struggle and smartF
By her and my heartF
-
By her and my heart in the WestF
Laid sadly together as oneD
On her grave for a moment to restF
Far away from the noise and the sunD
On Chenoweth's RunD
