In dim samite was she bedightA
And on her hair a hoop of goldA
Like fox fire in the tawn moonlightA
Was glimmering coldA
-
With soft gray eyes she gloomed and gloweredA
With soft red lips she sang a songB
What knight might gaze upon her faceC
Nor fare alongB
-
For all her looks were full of spellsD
And all her words of sorceryE
And in some way they seemed to sayF
'Oh come with meE
-
'Oh come with me oh come with meE
Oh come with me my love Sir Kay '-
How should he know the witch I trowG
Morgan le FayF
-
How should he know the wily witchH
With sweet white face and raven hairI
Who by her art bewitched his heartA
And held him thereI
-
For soul and sense had waxed amortA
To wold and weald to slade and streamJ
And all he heard was her soft wordA
As one adreamJ
-
And all he saw was her bright eyesK
And her fair face that held him stillL
And wild and wan she led him onM
O'er vale and hillL
-
Until at last a castle layF
Beneath the moon among the treesN
Its Gothic towers old and grayF
With mysteriesN
-
Tall in its hall an hundred knightsO
In armor stood with glaive in handA
The following of some great KingP
Lord of that landA
-
Sir Bors Sir Balin and GawainQ
All Arthur's knights and many moJ
But these in battle had been slainR
Long years agoJ
-
But when Morgan with lifted handA
Moved down the hall they louted lowJ
For she was Queen of ShadowlandA
That woman of snowJ
-
Then from Sir Kay she drew awayF
And mocking at him by her sideA
'Behold Sir Knights the knave who slewS
Your King ' she criedA
-
Then like one man those shadows raisedA
Their swords whereon the moon glanced grayF
And clashing all strode from the wallT
Against Sir KayF
-
And on his body bent and bowedA
The hundred blades like one blade fellU
While over all rang long and loudA
The mirth of HellU
