Lynchers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA BB CC DE FF GG HH II JJ KK AA

At the moon's down going let it beA
On the quarry hill with its one gnarled treeA
-
The red rock road of the underbrushB
Where the woman came through the summer hushB
-
The sumac high and the elder thickC
Where we found the stone and the ragged stickC
-
The trampled road of the thicket fullD
Of footprints down to the quarry poolE
-
The rocks that ooze with the hue of leadF
Where we found her lying stark and deadF
-
The scraggy wood the negro hutG
With its doors and windows locked and shutG
-
A secret signal a foot's rough trampH
A knock at the door a lifted lampH
-
An oath a scuffle a ring of masksI
A voice that answers a voice that asksI
-
A group of shadows the moon's red fleckJ
A running noose and a man's bared neckJ
-
A word a curse and a shape that swingsK
The lonely night and a bat's black wingsK
-
At the moon's down going let it beA
On the quarry hill with its one gnarled treeA
