Kentucky Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB ACAD EFEF GHGH CICI JKJK ALAL MNCN OPOP CJCJ

You who are met to rememberA
Kentucky and give her praiseB
Who have warmed your hearts at the emberA
Of her love for many daysB
-
Be faithful to your motherA
However your ways may runC
And holding one to the otherA
Prove worthy to be her sonsD
-
Worthy of her who brought youE
Worthy in dream and deedF
Worthy her love that taught youE
And holds your work in heedF
-
Your work she weighs and watchesG
Giving it praise and blameH
As to her heart she catchesG
Or sets aside in shameH
-
One with her heart's devotionC
One with her soul's firm willI
She holds to the oldtime notionC
Of what is good what illI
-
And still in unspoiled beautyJ
With all her pioneer prideK
She keeps to the path of dutyJ
And never turns asideK
-
She dons no new attireA
Of modern modes and tricksL
And stands for something higherA
Than merely politicsL
-
For much the world must think onM
For dreams as well as deedsN
For men like Clay and LincolnC
And words the whole world readsN
-
Not for her manners graciousO
Nor works nor courage ofP
Convictions proud audaciousO
Does she compel our loveP
-
But for her heart's one passionC
Old as democracyJ
That holds to the ancient fashionC
Of hospitalityJ
