Summer evenings when it's warmA
In the yard we sit and swingB
And it's better than a farmC
Watching how the fireflies swarmA
Listening to the crickets singB
And the katydids that cryD
'Katy did n't Katy did 'E
In the trees and flowers hidF
So I ask my father 'WhyG
What's the thing she did n't do 'E
For he told me that he knewH
'Katy did n't like to worryI
But she did so like to talkJ
Gossip of herself and talkJ
Katy did n't like to hurryI
But she did so like to walkJ
Saunter by herself and walkJ
How is that now for a story 'E

And one night when it was fineL
And the moon peeped through the treesM
And the scented jessamine vineL
Swung its blossoms in the breezeM
Full of sleeping honeybeesM
'That's Old Sister Moon ' he saidN
'She's a perfect simpletonL
Scared to death of Old Man SunL
All day long she hides her head '-
And I asked my father whyG
And he made me this replyG
'Sister Moon's old eyes are wearyI
Her old eyes are very weakO
Poor and old and worn and weakO
And the old Sun with his cheeryI
Looks just makes them leak and leakO
Like an old can leak and leakO
That's the reason why my dearie '-
