In The Shadow Of The Beeches Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABAAB ACACDDC AEAEFFE AAAAFFA

In the shadow of the beechesA
Where the fragile wildflowers bloomB
Where the pensive silence pleachesA
Green a roof of cool perfumeB
Have you felt an awe imperiousA
As when in a church mysteriousA
Windows paint with God the gloomB
-
In the shadow of the beechesA
Where the rock ledged waters flowC
Where the sun's slant splendor bleachesA
Every wave to foaming snowC
Have you felt a music solemnD
As when minster arch and columnD
Echo organ worship lowC
-
In the shadow of the beechesA
Where the light and shade are blentE
Where the forest bird beseechesA
And the breeze is brimmed with scentE
Is it joy or melancholyF
That o'erwhelms us partly whollyF
To our spirit's bettermentE
-
In the shadow of the beechesA
Lay me where no eye perceivesA
Where like some great arm that reachesA
Gently as a love that grievesA
One gnarled root may clasp me kindlyF
While the long years working blindlyF
Slowly change my dust to leavesA
