Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDEFFGHHAAIJKKL JMMNNCCAAKKCCIf heart be tired and soul be sad | A |
As life goes on in homespun clad | A |
Drab colorless with much of care | B |
Not even a ribbon in her hair | B |
Heart broken for the near and new | C |
And sick to do what others do | C |
And quit the road of toil and tears | D |
Doffing the burden of the years | E |
And if beside you one should rise | F |
Doubt with a menace in its eyes | F |
What then | G |
Why look Life in the face | H |
And there again you may retrace | H |
The dream that once in youth you had | A |
When life was full of hope and glad | A |
And knew no doubt no dread that trails | I |
In darkness by and sighs 'All fails ' | J |
And in its every look and breath | K |
A shudder old as night that saith | K |
With something of finality | L |
'There is no immortality ' | J |
Confusing faith who stands alone | M |
Like a green tree midst woods of stone | M |
Who feels within itself a change | N |
Through contact with the dark and strange | N |
'T were better with that Dream you knew | C |
In youth to dream all dreams come true | C |
And follow Love in homespun clad | A |
As once you did when but a lad | A |
And with the trusting heart of youth | K |
Listened and held them for the truth | K |
The wondertales Life told to you | C |
Tales that at last she will make true | C |
