She kneels with haggard eyes and hairA
Unto the Christ upon the CrossB
Her gown is torn her feet are bareA
-
What is this thing she begs of himC
The gentle Christ upon the CrossB
Her hands are clasped her face is dimC
-
Is it forgiveness for her sinD
She asks of Christ upon the CrossB
And mercy for the soul withinD
-
With anguished face so sad and sweetE
She kneels to Christ upon the CrossB
Her arms embrace his nail pierced feetE
-
Her tears run slowly down her faceF
O piteous Christ upon the CrossB
And through her tears she sighs and saysG
-
'The thing that I would crave of TheeH
O Christ upon the cruel CrossB
Is not a thing to comfort meH
-
'Thou who hast taught us to forgiveI
O tender Christ upon the CrossB
Help Thou my love for him to liveJ
-
'Oh let the love that was my fallK
O loving Christ upon the CrossB
Still to my life be all in allK
-
'With love for him who loves no moreL
O patient Christ upon the CrossB
Make Thou my punishment full sore '-
-
She kneels with haggard eyes and hairA
Unto the Christ upon the CrossB
Her gown is torn her feet are bareA
