Her Portrait Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFG HIII CJCJ IIII KEKE

Were I an artist Lydia IA
Would paint you as you meritB
Not as my eyes but dreams descryC
Not in the flesh but spiritB
-
The canvas I would paint you onD
Should be a bit of heavenE
My brush a sunbeam pigments dawnF
And night and starry evenG
-
Your form and features to expressH
Likewise your soul's chaste whitenessI
I'd take the primal essencesI
Of darkness and of brightnessI
-
I'd take pure night to paint your hairC
Stars for your eyes and morningJ
To paint your skin the rosy airC
That is your limbs' adorningJ
-
To paint the love bows of your lipsI
I'd mix for colors kissesI
And for your breasts and finger tipsI
Sweet odors and soft blissesI
-
And to complete the picture wellK
I'd temper all with womanE
Some tears some laughter heaven and hellK
To show you still are humanE
