Rhyme Scheme: AAABABA C DDDEDFD C GGGHGHG I JJJIJIJ I KKKLKLK I MMMNMNM I O OOOOWhen dusk falls cool as a rained on rose | A |
And a tawny tower the twilight shows | A |
With the crescent moon the silver moon the curved new moon in a space that glows | A |
A turret window that grows a light | B |
There is a path that my Fancy knows | A |
A glimmering shimmering path of night | B |
That far as the Land of Faery goes | A |
- | |
II | C |
- | |
And I follow the path as Fancy leads | D |
Over the mountains into the meads | D |
Where the firefly cities the glowworm cities the fairy cities are strung like beads | D |
Each city a twinkling star | E |
And I live a life of valorous deeds | D |
And march with the Fairy King to war | F |
And ride with his knights on milk white steeds | D |

Or it's there in the whirl of their life I sit | G |
Or dance in their houses with starlight lit | G |
Their blossom houses their flower houses their elfin houses of fern leaves knit | G |
With fronded spires and domes | H |
And there it is that my lost dreams flit | G |
And the ghost of my childhood smiling roams | H |
With the fairy children so dear to it | G |

IV | I |

And it's there I hear that they all come true | J |
The fairy stories whatever they do | J |
Elf and goblin dear elf and goblin loved elf and goblin and all the crew | J |
Of witch and wizard and gnome and fay | I |
And prince and princess that wander through | J |
The storybooks we have put away | I |
The fairytales that we loved and knew | J |

V | I |

The face of Adventure lures you there | K |
And the eyes of Danger bid you dare | K |
While ever the bugles the silver bugles the far off bugles of Elfland blare | K |
The fairy trumpets to battle blow | L |
And you feel their thrill in your heart and hair | K |
And you fain would follow and mount and go | L |
And march with the Fairies anywhere | K |
- | |
VI | I |
- | |
And she she rides at your side again | M |
Your little sweetheart whose age is ten | M |
She is the princess the fairy princess the princess fair that you worshipped when | M |
You were a prince in a fairytale | N |
And you do great deeds as you did them then | M |
With your magic spear and enchanted mail | N |
Braving the dragon in his den | M |
- | |
VII | I |
- | |
And you ask again 'Oh where shall we ride | O |
Now that the monster is slain my bride ' | - |
'Back to the cities the firefly cities the glowworm cities where we can hide | O |
The beautiful cities of Faeryland | O |
And the light of my eyes shall be your guide | O |
The light of my eyes and my snow white hand | O |
And there forever we two will abide ' | - |
