Elfin Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAAAB C DEDDDE C FGFFFG H IJIIIJ

When wildflower blue and wildflower whiteA
The wildflowers lay their heads togetherB
And the moon moth glimmers along the nightA
And the wandering firefly flares its lightA
And the full moon rises broad and brightA
Then then it is elfin weatherB
-
IIC
-
And fern and flower on top of the hillD
Are a fairy wood where the fairies campE
And there to the pipe of the cricket shrillD
And the owl's bassoon or the whippoorwillD
They whirl their wildest and trip their fillD
By the light of the glowworm's lampE
-
IIIC
-
And the green tree toad and the katydidF
Are the henchmen set to guard their danceG
At whose cry they creep 'neath the dewy lidF
Of a violet's eye or close lie hidF
In a bluebell's ear if a mortal 'midF
The moonlit woods should chanceG
-
IVH
-
And the forest fly with its gossamer wingsI
And filmy body of rainbow dyeJ
Is the ouphen steed each elfin bringsI
Whereon by the light of the stars he swingsI
When the dance is done and the barn cock singsI
And the dim dawn streaks the skyJ
