Dusk In The Woods Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAB CDDCD EFFEF GDDGD HIIHI JKLJK MNNMN

Three miles of trees it is and IA
Came through the woods that waited dumbB
For the cool summer dusk to comeB
And lingered there to watch the skyA
Up which the gradual splendor clombB
-
A tree toad quavered in a treeC
And then a sudden whippoorwillD
Called overhead so wildly shrillD
The sleeping wood it seemed to meC
Cried out and then again was stillD
-
Then through dark boughs its stealthy flightE
An owl took and at drowsy strifeF
The cricket tuned its faery fifeF
And like a ghost flower silent whiteE
The wood moth glimmered into lifeF
-
And in the dead wood everywhereG
The insects ticked or bored belowD
The rotted bark and glow on glowD
The lambent fireflies here and thereG
Lit up their jack o' lantern showD
-
I heard a vesper sparrow singH
Withdrawn it seemed into the farI
Slow sunset's tranquil cinnabarI
The crimson softly smolderingH
Behind the trees with its one starI
-
A dog barked and down ways that gleamedJ
Through dew and clover faint the noiseK
Of cowbells moved And then a voiceL
That sang a milking so it seemedJ
Made glad my heart as some glad boy'sK
-
And then the lane and full in viewM
A farmhouse with its rose grown gateN
And honeysuckle paths awaitN
For night the moon and love and youM
These are the things that made me lateN
