Dusk In The Woods Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBAB CDDCD EFFEF GDDGD HIIHI JKLJK MNNMN| Three miles of trees it is and I | A |
| Came through the woods that waited dumb | B |
| For the cool summer dusk to come | B |
| And lingered there to watch the sky | A |
| Up which the gradual splendor clomb | B |
| - | |
| A tree toad quavered in a tree | C |
| And then a sudden whippoorwill | D |
| Called overhead so wildly shrill | D |
| The sleeping wood it seemed to me | C |
| Cried out and then again was still | D |
| - | |
| Then through dark boughs its stealthy flight | E |
| An owl took and at drowsy strife | F |
| The cricket tuned its faery fife | F |
| And like a ghost flower silent white | E |
| The wood moth glimmered into life | F |
| - | |
| And in the dead wood everywhere | G |
| The insects ticked or bored below | D |
| The rotted bark and glow on glow | D |
| The lambent fireflies here and there | G |
| Lit up their jack o' lantern show | D |
| - | |
| I heard a vesper sparrow sing | H |
| Withdrawn it seemed into the far | I |
| Slow sunset's tranquil cinnabar | I |
| The crimson softly smoldering | H |
| Behind the trees with its one star | I |
| - | |
| A dog barked and down ways that gleamed | J |
| Through dew and clover faint the noise | K |
| Of cowbells moved And then a voice | L |
| That sang a milking so it seemed | J |
| Made glad my heart as some glad boy's | K |
| - | |
| And then the lane and full in view | M |
| A farmhouse with its rose grown gate | N |
| And honeysuckle paths await | N |
| For night the moon and love and you | M |
| These are the things that made me late | N |
