Before The Rain Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBABACD CDDADA AEAEEFEG

BEFORE the rain low in the obscure eastA
Weak and morose the moon hung sickly grayB
Around its disc the storm mists cracked and creasedA
Wove an enormous web wherein it layB
Like some white spider hungry for its preyB
Vindictive looked the scowling firmamentA
In which each star that flashed a dagger rayB
Seemed filled with malice of some dark intentA
The marsh frog croaked and underneath the stoneC
The peevish cricket raised a creaking cryD
-
Within the world these sounds were heard aloneC
Save when the ruffian wind swept from the skyD
Making each tree like some sad spirit sighD
Or shook the clumsy beetle from its weedA
That in the drowsy darkness bungling byD
Sharded the silence with its feverish speedA
-
Slowly the tempest gathered Hours passedA
Before was heard the thunder's sullen drumE
Rumbling night's hollow and the Earth at lastA
Restless with waiting like a woman dumbE
With doubting of the love that should have clombE
Her casement hours ago avowed againF
'Mid protestations joy that he had comeE
And all night long I heard the Heavens explainG
