There's a bug at night that goesA
Drowsily down the garden waysB
Lumberingly above the roseA
And above the jasmine spraysB
Bumping bungling buzzing byC
Falling finally to crawlD
Underneath the rose and lieC
Near its fairest bud That's allD
And I ask my father whyC
This old bug goes by that wayE
This is what he has to sayE
'That's old Parson Beetle sonnyF
He's in love with some rich flowerG
After her and all her honeyF
And he'll have them in an hourG
He is awkward but I sayE
With the flowers he has a wayE
And I tell you he's a powerG
Never fails to get his flowerG
He's a great old Beetle sonny 'H

Then again when it is wetJ
And we sit around the lampK
On the screen near which it's setJ
Comes a fluttering dim and dampK
Of white woolly wings and II
Go to see what's there and findL
Something like a butterflyI
Beating at the window blindL
And I ask my father whyI
This strange creature does that wayE
This is what he has to sayE
'Lady Moth that she's the fashionM
Fall's in love with all bright thingsN
She has a consuming passionM
For this light will singe her wingsN
Once it was a star you knowO
That she loved I told you soO
Take her up What lovely ringsN
On her scorched and dainty wingsN
It's a pity but the fashion '-
