At Vespers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD CECE CFCF FGFG AFAF CHCH

High up in the organ storyA
A girl stands slim and fairB
And touched with the casement's gloryA
Gleams out her radiant hairB
-
The young priest kneels at the altarC
Then lifts the Host aboveD
And the psalm intoned from the psalterC
Is pure with patient loveD
-
A sweet bell chimes and a censerC
Swings gleaming in the gloomE
The candles glimmer and denserC
Rolls up the pale perfumeE
-
Then high in the organ choirC
A voice of crystal soarsF
Of patience and soul's desireC
That suffers and adoresF
-
And out of the altar's dimnessF
An answering voice doth swellG
Of passion that cries from the grimnessF
And anguish of its own hellG
-
High up in the organ storyA
One kneels with a girlish graceF
And touched with the vesper gloryA
Lifts her madonna faceF
-
One stands at the cloudy altarC
A form bowed down and thinH
The text of the psalm in the psalterC
He reads is sorrow and sinH
