At The Ferry Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCB DEFFE GHIIH JKLLK MNOPN

Oh dim and wan came in the dawnA
And gloomy closed the dayB
The killdee whistled among the weedsC
The heron flapped in the river reedsC
And the snipe piped far awayB
-
At dawn she stood her dark gray hoodD
Flung back in the ferry boatE
Sad were the eyes that watched him rideF
Her raider love from the riversideF
His kiss on her mouth and throatE
-
Like some wild spell the twilight fellG
And black the tempest cameH
The heavens seemed filled with the warring deadI
Whose batteries opened overheadI
With thunder and with flameH
-
At night again in the wind and rainJ
She toiled at the ferry oarK
For she heard a voice in the night and stormL
And it seemed that her lover's shadowy formL
Beckoned her to the shoreK
-
And swift to save she braved the waveM
And reached the shore and foundN
His riderless horse with head hung lowO
A blur of blood on the saddle bowP
And the empty night aroundN
