Aphrodite Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQFRS TFUVWOOXYWLZUA2

Apollo never smote a lovelier strainA
When swan necked Hebe paused her thirsty bowlB
A sparkle with its wealth of nectar draughtsC
To lend a list'ners ear and smile on himD
As that the Tritons blew on wreathed hornsE
When Aphrodite the cold ocean foamF
Bursting its bubbles from the hissing snowG
Whirled her nude form on Hyperion's gazeH
Naked and fresh as Indian Ocean shellI
Dashed landward from its bed of sucking spongeJ
And branching corals by the changed monsoonK
Wind rocked she swung her white feet on the seaL
And music raved down the slant western windsM
With swollen jowls the Tritons puffed the conchN
Where breasting with cold bosoms the green wavesO
That laughed in ripples at Love's misty feetP
Oceanids with dimple dented palmsQ
Smote sidewise the pale bubbles of the foamF
Which wove a silver iris 'round her formR
Where dolphins tumbling stained the garish archS
Ner ides sang braiding their wet locksT
Or flung them streaming on the broken foamF
Till evetide showed her loveliest of starsU
Lost passion flower of the sinking sunV
In the cool sheen of shadowy waters deepW
That moaned wild sea songs at the Sirens' cavesO
Then in a hollow pearl o'er moon white wavesO
The creatures of the ocean danced their queenX
Till Cytherea like a rosy mistY
Beneath the star rose blushing from the deepW
On the pearled sands of a moon glassing seaL
Beneath the moon narcissus like they metZ
She naked as a star and crowned with starsU
Child of the airy foam and queen of loveA2
