Rhyme Scheme: AAB CCC DDD EEE FFF GGG HHH IIJThe night is loud with reeds of rain | A |
Rejoicing at my window pane | A |
And murmuring 'Spring comes again ' | B |
- | |
I hear the wind take up their song | C |
And on the sky's vibrating gong | C |
Beat out and roar it all night long | C |
- | |
Then waters where they pour their might | D |
In foam halloo it down the night | D |
From vale to vale and height to height | D |
- | |
And I thank God that down the deep | E |
She comes her ancient tryst to keep | E |
With Earth again who wakes from sleep | E |
- | |
From death and sleep that held her fast | F |
So long pale cerements round her cast | F |
Her penetential raiment vast | F |
- | |
Now Lazarus like within her grave | G |
She stirs who hears the words that save | G |
The Christ like words of wind and wave | G |
- | |
And hearing bids her soul prepare | H |
The germs of blossoms in her there | H |
To make her body sweet and fair | H |
- | |
To meet in manifest audience | I |
The eyes of Spring and reverence | I |
With beauty God in soul and sense | J |
