A Sleet-storm In May Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIJKK LMMNNOOPPQQRRSTUUU

On southern winds shot through with amber lightA
Breathing soft balm and clothed in cloudy whiteA
The lily fingered Spring came o'er the hillsB
Waking the crocus and the daffodilsB
O'er the cold Earth she breathed a tender sighC
The maples sang and flung their banners highC
Their crimson tasselled pennons and the elmD
Bound his dark brows with a green crested helmD
Beneath the musky rot of Autumn's leavesE
Under the forest's myriad naked eavesE
Life woke and rose in gold and green and blueF
Robed in the starlight of the twinkling dewF
With timid tread adown the barren woodG
Spring held her way when lo before her stoodG
White mantled Winter wagging his white headH
Stormy his brow and stormily he saidH
'The God of Terror and the King of StormI
Must I remind thee how my iron armJ
Raised my red standards 'mid these conquered bowersK
Turning their green to crimson Thou with flowersK
Thou wouldst supplant me nay usurp my throneL
Audacious one ' And at her breast he tossedM
A bitter javelin of ice and frostM
And left her lying on th' unfeeling mouldN
The fragile blossoms gathered in the foldN
Of her warm bosom fell in desolate rowsO
About her beauty and like fragrant snowsO
Covered her lovely hands and beautiful feetP
Or on her lips lay like last kisses sweetP
That died there Lilacs musky of the MayQ
And bluer violets and snowdrops layQ
Entombed in crystal icy dim and fairR
Like teardrops scattered in her heavenly hairR
Alas sad heart break not beneath the painS
Time changeth all the Beautiful wakes againT
We should not question such a higher powerU
Knows best what bud is ripest or what flowerU
And silently plucks it at the fittest hourU
