Rhyme Scheme: ABABA C DEDED C FGHGF I JKJKJ I LMLML I NONON I PQPQP I RSRSR

These are the things which I would ask of TimeA
When I am oldB
Never to feel in soul doubt's spiritual rimeA
The heart grow coldB
With self but in me that which warms my timeA
-
IIC
-
Never to feel the drouth the dearth that killsD
Before one diesE
Of mind full flowering on thought's fertile hillsD
But in my skiesE
The falcon Fancy that no season killsD
-
IIIC
-
Never to see the shadow at my doorF
Nor fear its fallG
But wait serenely whether rich or poorH
Nor care at allG
So Love sits with me at my open doorF
-
IVI
-
Never to have a dream I dreamed destroyedJ
And towards the lastK
Live o'er again all that I have enjoyedJ
The happy PastK
Through these the dreams no time has yet destroyedJ
-
VI
-
Never to lose my love for lowly thingsL
To feel the needM
For simple beauty still each bird that singsL
Each flower and weedM
That looks its message of unguessed at thingsL
-
VII
-
Never to lose my faith in Nature GodN
But still to findO
Worship in trees religion in each sodN
And in the windO
Sermons that breathe the universal GodN
-
VIII
-
Never to age in mind much less in heartP
But keep them youngQ
With song glad song that still shall have its partP
Sung or unsungQ
Within the inmost temple of my heartP
-
VIIII
-
That I may lose not all my trust in menR
And through it growS
Nearer to Heaven and God and softly thenR
Meet Death and knowS
He has no terrors for my soul AmenR
