I heard the flute a bird like note | G |
That made the place a magic well | H |
On which enchantment seemed to float | G |
A spirit in a rainbow shell | H |

I knew what danced there with its flute | I |
Unseen a part of soul and mind | J |
I saw the imprint of its foot | K |
In many a flower of orchis kind | J |

I knew it of an ancient race | A |
Some myth the Greeks had known of old | L |
Could I have spoken it face to face | A |
Of what lost dreams I might have told | L |
