To Sanson (02) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDAD EFGF HIJI KLCL MNON PQRQ ASATN

Oh would the fairies to her whisperA
The truths which they to him impartB
Teach her a beautiful hereafterA
A Heaven to bless a tired heartB
-
Yet thinks she that the dear ones waitingC
Would envy not the boon she cravesD
To rear fair friendship's sacred alterA
Where love and hope sleep in their gravesD
-
She knows not that a loving welcomeE
Will wait her in a realm of lightF
Nought of a future meeting whispersG
No faith illumes her soul's dark nightF
-
But oh she knows has by experienceH
The saddest of all lessons learnedI
Knows that she gathered dead sea applesJ
Which in her hands to ashes turnedI
-
She knows into a trammelled torrentK
Is changed her life's free flowing tideL
Knows that her hand no oar is holdingC
With which her drifting bark to guideL
-
She knows yes knows that like the mirageM
Which for the thirsty traveler gleamedN
The sweet ideal she fondly cherishedO
Was never there it only seemedN
-
If what she knows is to her provenP
A false deluding fleeting showQ
Can she generous spirit can sheR
Trust blindly what she does not knowQ
-
But if for this he shuts against herA
The heart that's shining in his eyesS
She'll bring the gift that for the PeriA
Unbarred the gate of paradiseT
REVENITAN
