Only Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK MNON PQRQ

Only a sentence earnest spokeA
With never a thought to word itB
Fell like balm from the sea of calmC
On the aching heart that heard itB
-
Only a glance a scornful smileD
A wavering purpose alteredE
Goaded a hand the crime to doF
At which before it falteredE
-
Only a kiss a love caressG
Tender and trustful givenH
Banished a cloud from brow of careI
Made home a woman's HeavenH
-
Only a secret chance disclosedJ
Whence secret should be neverK
A doubt crept into the heart that lovedL
And its light went out foreverK
-
Only a prayer a wrong confessedM
By suppliant lowly kneelingN
Opened the gate where the angels waitO
Life's Eden field revealingN
-
Careful then scatter the little thingsP
They make life drear and lonelyQ
Or strew its way with flowers gayR
We live by trifles onlyQ
