Nay, Do Not Ask Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB ADED FGHG IJKJ ABLB

Nay do not ask me Sweet if I have loved beforeA
Or if mayhap in other years to beB
A younger fairer face than thine I knowC
I'll love her more than theeB
-
What should it matter if I've loved beforeA
So that I love thee now and love thee bestD
What matters it that I should love againE
If first the daisy buds blow o'er thy breastD
-
Love has the waywardness of strange capriceF
One can not chain it to a recreant heartG
Nor when around the soul its tendrils twineH
Can will the clinging silken bonds to partG
-
It is enough I hold thee prisoned in my armsI
And drink the dewy fragrance of thy breathJ
And earth and heaven and hades are forgotK
And love holds carnival and laughs at deathJ
-
Then do not ask me Sweet if I have loved beforeA
Or if some day my heart might turn from theeB
In this brief hour thou hast my soul of loveL
And thou are Is and Was and May be all to meB
