Life's Way Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEG CHCH IJIJ KLML HNHN OPOQ RSRS

Good bye sweetheart he said and clasped her handA
And rained his kisses on her tear wet faceB
Then broke away and in a foreign landA
For her dear sake sought gold that he might placeB
-
Love's jeweled crown upon his queen's fair browC
And pour his hard won treasures at her feetD
And swore than Heaven than life itself his vowC
To her he held more sacred and more sweetD
-
She waited as the woman only mayE
Whose eyes are blinded oft with unshed tearsF
Lines on her forehead grew and threads of grayE
The weary days crept into weary yearsG
-
Oh stars go down Oh sun be shrouded nowC
My love comes not he does not live she saidH
And brushed the curls he'd kissed back from her browC
And pout on mourning for her deadH
-
And still as oft the day came round that heI
Had left his warm good bye upon her lipsJ
As oft she sought the head land by seaI
And longing watched the far off white sailed shipsJ
-
To day the low sand beach was over strewnK
Torn sail and broken spar and human formL
'Gulfed by the waves and crushed and then out thrownM
A ship went down in yester night's wild stormL
-
She walked among the debris and the deadH
As some sweet mercy sister on her roundN
Scanning each up turned face with nameless dreadH
For aught of life her tireless searching foundN
-
A babe a waif with tawny tangled locksO
And great blue eyes with wonder brimming o'erP
Of all the human freight wrecked on the rocksO
The only living thing that washed ashoreQ
-
A pearl gemmed golden case upon its breastR
She oped then stared her eyes a sudden wildS
A name a pictured face told all the restR
His name his face his childS
