A Thought Of Heaven Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK MKNK ABAB OMPM QRSR TUKU

Friend of my heart you say to meA
That your belief is thisB
The heaven is but a vision rareC
Of pure ethereal blissB
-
And life there but a dream enhancedD
Where never sound alarmsE
Where flowers ne'er fade and skies ne'er cloudF
And voiceless music charmsE
-
And save as see we in our dreamsG
The dear ones gone beforeH
The friends that here we knew and lovedI
We'll know and love no moreH
-
An endless and unbroken restJ
Nor change nor night nor dayK
Where aimless as in sleep we'll dreamL
Eternity awayK
-
Sweet friend of mine that Heaven of thineM
Methinks if overblestK
We could not work on earth enoughN
To need so long a restK
-
Our human nature could not beA
Content with rest like thisB
And even bliss could cloy if weA
Had nothing else but blissB
-
Great Nature's hand in every planO
Had laid in wise designM
But what design or use is inP
This theory of thineM
-
If when our earth career is doneQ
All conscious life must ceaseR
And we drift on and on and onS
In endless dreamy peaceR
-
If Heaven is but a mystic spellT
Whose glowing visions thrallU
Why should we have a life beyondK
Why have a Heaven at allU
