Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DBEB EFGF AHIH EJKJ CBAB DHFH

Close on my heart was restingA
A sunny golden headB
As the dim gray of the twilightC
Crept round with noiseless treadB
-
Tell me a 'tory mammaD
The blue eyed baby saidB
About some itty birdieE
In za itty birdie bedB
-
'Bout fen oo was ittyE
An'ze mens was walkin' hayF
An' found free ittie birdiesG
Wiz za muzzer don awayF
-
Some other time my darlingA
Mamma's tired nowH
A shade of disappointmentI
Swept over the baby's browH
-
The dear blue eyes grew mistyE
O lips that lived to blameJ
That kissed and whispered sometimeK
That sometime never cameJ
-
Again the dim gray twilightC
Creeps round with noiseless treadB
But on my heart is restingA
No sunny golden headB
-
No sweet voice pleads with mammaD
Tell me a 'tory nowH
And only death can take awayF
The shadow on my browH
