In Memoriam. - Wentworth Alexander, Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B CCDEED FGHIIH JJHKKH LBMNNM OOJPPJ

Son of Dr WILLIAM and Mrs MARY WENTWORTH ALEXANDER died at Fayette Iowa May aged yearsA
-
Coming in from play he laid his head on his mother's bosom and said Mama take your boy boy tired and never looked up healthfully againB
-
-
Boy tired the drooping infant saidC
And meekly laid his noble headC
Down on that shielding breastD
Which mid all change of grief or woE
Had been his Paradise belowE
His comforter and restD
-
Boy tired Alas for nursing LoveF
That sleepless toiled and watched and stroveG
For dire disease portendsH
Alas for Science and its skillI
Opposed to his unpitying willI
This mortal span that rendsH
-
Boy tired So thou hast past awayJ
From heat and burden of the dayJ
From snares that manhood knowsH
From want and wo and deadly strifeK
From wrong and weariness of lifeK
Hast found serene reposeH
-
Boy tired Those words of parting painL
Thou never more wilt breathe againB
Nor lift the moaning cryM
For naught to wound or vex or cloyN
Invades the cherub home of joyN
No shade obscures the skyM
-
O mother When above ye meetO
When all these years so few and fleetO
Fade like a mist awayJ
This sorrow that thy soul hath bowedP
Shall seem but as an April cloudP
Before the noon tide rayJ
