- | |
Not in the pulpit where he joy'd to bear | B |
The message of salvation not beside | C |
His study lamp nor in the fireside chair | B |
Encircled by those dearest ones who found | D |
In him their life of life nor in the homes | E |
Of his beloved flock sharing with them | F |
All sympathies of sorrow or of joy | G |
Is seen the faithful Shepherd | H |
He hath gone | I |
To yon blest Country where he long'd to be | J |
To stand before the Great White Throne and join | K |
That hymn of praise for which his course below | L |
Gave preparation | M |
At one post he stood | N |
From youth till fourscore years averse to change | O |
Though oft times tempted For he did not deem | P |
Restless ambition or desire of gold | Q |
Fit counterpoise for that most sacred love | R |
Born in the inner chambers of the soul | S |
And intertwining with a golden mesh | T |
Pastor and people | U |
Like some lofty tree | J |
Whose untransplanted roots in freshness meet | V |
The living waters and whose leaf is green | W |
'Mid winter's gather'd frost serene he stood | N |
More fondly honor'd for each added year | X |
While 'neath his shadow drew with reverent love | R |
Successive generations | Y |
- | |
Hoary Time | Z |
Linger'd with blessings for his latest day | A2 |
And now 'neath turf embalm'd with tears he sleeps | B2 |
Waiting the resurrection of the just | C2 |
