| - | |
| She found a painless avenue to make | B |
| The great transition from a world of care | C |
| To one of rest | D |
| It was the Sabbath day | E |
| And beautiful with smile of vernal sun | F |
| And the up springing fragrance from the earth | G |
| With all that soothing quietude which links | H |
| The consecrated season unto Him | I |
| Who bade the creatures He had made revere | J |
| And keep it holy | K |
| From her fair abode | L |
| Lovely with early flowers she took her way | E |
| The second time unto the House of God | M |
| And side by side with her life's chosen friend | N |
| Walk'd cheerfully Within those hallow'd courts | O |
| Where holds the soul communion with its God | M |
| She listening sate | P |
| But then she lean'd her head | Q |
| Upon her husband's shoulder and unmark'd | R |
| By one distorted feature by the loss | S |
| Or blanching of the rose tint on her cheek | T |
| Rose to more perfect worship | U |
| It might seem | V |
| As if a sacred temple purified | W |
| By prayers and praises were a place sublime | X |
| Of fitting sanctity wherein to hear | Y |
| The inexpressive call that summoneth | G |
| The ready spirit upward | Z |
| But the change | A2 |
| In her delightful home what words can tell | B2 |
| The shock and contrast when a mind so skill'd | C2 |
| With order and efficiency to fill | D2 |
| Each post of woman's duty and of love | E2 |
| Vanished from all its daily ministries | F2 |
| And the lone daughter found the guiding voice | G2 |
| Silent forevermore | Y |
| Her's was the heart | H2 |
| For an unswerving friendship warm and true | Y |
| And self forgetful her's the liberal hand | I2 |
| To those who pine in cells of poverty | K |
| The knowledge of their state the will to aid | J2 |
| The thought that cared for them the zeal that blest | D |
| - | |
| Hence tears o'er rugged cheeks fell fast for her | Y |
| And the old white hair'd pensioner knelt down | K2 |
| Beside her lifeless clay and cross'd himself | L2 |
| And pour'd his desolate prayer for her kind heart | H2 |
| Saw in the creed of varying sects no bar | Y |
| To charity but in their time of need | M2 |
| Held all as brethren | F |
| 'Twas a pleasant spot | N2 |
| Amid fresh verdure where they laid her down | K2 |
| While the young plants that o'er a daughter's grave | O2 |
| Took summer rooting seemed in haste to reach | P2 |
| Forth their incipient roots and tendrils green | Q2 |
| To broider her turf pillow | R2 |
| Sleep in peace | S2 |
| Ye whom the ties of nature closely bound | T2 |
| And death disparted for a little while | U2 |
| Mother and gentle daughter sleep in peace | S2 |
| Your forms engraven deep on loving hearts | V2 |
| As with a diamond's point till memory fade | J2 |
